From larvae to grown up, follow the life of the butterfly with TPO’s Children’s Cheering Carpet and motion capture technology.

Compose lullabies with your feet, chase caterpillars on your bottom and get ready to interact with a theatrical experience designed for the eyes, ears, knees and toes.

You might be invited to visit the cocoon, or to virtually paint with your arms, or to sit for a while on a flower. Larvae, caterpillar, butterfly, it’s all in a day’s work.

Created for those of 4 and up, the Children’s Cheering Carpet (CCC) is a touch sensitive carpet that triggers images and sound, creating a virtual landscape for performers and the audience. Motion capture sensors enable images to be triggered by breath and light, creating images on the white carpet and two large wings.

Images and sounds are created in real time, making the audience the artist as well as the two performers, and an opportunity to get hands all over TPO’s technology.

TPO have previously toured the UK and Ireland with their Garden Trilgoy: The Japanese Garden, The Kurdish Garden and The Italian Garden touring to regional arts centres and theatres including the Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre and Lyric Hammersmith, London.

TPO is one of Italy’s most distinguished visual theatre companies, creating original theatrical experiences for younger audiences since 1981. Directed by Davide Venturini and Francesco Gandi, TPO collaborate with artists from various backgrounds to collide digital imagery, dance and theatre. The CCC was awarded the Ade Art Digital Era prize in 2004.

Butterflies have been created for children aged between four to seven and can hold a capacity of 100 spectators at a time.

TPO’s Children’s Cheering Carpet is accessible for wheelchair users and audiences of any language or ability.
