BLIND SUMMIT
Blind Summit Theatre are reinventing puppetry for modern adult audiences. They were founded in 1997 by Nick Barnes and Mark Down. In 2005 they created Sorrow for Anthony Minghella’s Olivier Award winning Madam Butterfly at the ENO and this year toured their gin soaked puppet cabaret show Low Life to international and UK venues.
Crying Out Loud is currently working with them on a new piece inspired by Jack London’s Call Of The Wild. The company is collaborating with the National Theatre Studio to create the first part of the performance.
This story about finding our true nature is a tale for our times. It follows the life of a dog kidnapped into the Yukon Gold Rush at the end of the 19th century. As the dog becomes wilder he is ennobled by the experience, while the men around him descend into increasing depravity, corrupted by their desire for gold.
The adaptation will use shadows and life-sized puppets to recreate the Artic Tundra onstage and tell this classic tale of adventure and self discovery.
Blind Summit have just completed a script-devising workshop with Steve Canny at the National Theatre Studio.
