The Great Indoors

Music Boxes at Manchester International Festival

2-17 July 2011 @ MediaCityUK, Manchester

Following the huge success of MIF’s previous work for children, the action moves to Salford Quays this year with Music Boxes, a musical playground specially designed for children aged 6 months to 7 years.

A mini city of shipping containers will be springing up at MediaCityUK, the new home of BBC Children’s. Some containers will be miniature performance spaces, some will be specially adapted recording and animation studios, while others will be kitted out as interactive installations allowing the very young to explore a fantasy world of sound and music.

From jamming with fantastical new musical instruments, to opera for the under-twos; from making your own pop video to learning how to play the ukulele, Music Boxes will be 14 days of musical magic.

What’s more, it’s all free!

The Great Indoors

One of the great successes of the first Manchester International Festival (MIF), The Great Indoors returned 11 & 12 July 2009 for another feast of family activity and performance lasting an entire weekend. Held in the stunning surroundings of Manchester Town Hall, this two-day adventure delivered an extraordinary array of activity as international artists took over the rooms and corridors of one of Manchester’s true treasures.
