Matilda Leyser

Crying Out Loud is commissioning Matilda Leyser to create a new aerial play called Bridges. Bridges will be made in collaboration with acclaimed children’s author David Almond and an ensemble of artists to be confirmed in 2009.

Bridges is based on the idea of leaping and falling and what it is to be off the ground, it will combine text and aerial skills in a theatrical context.

The performance in progress will explore different forms of narrative, experimenting with story telling through object manipulation, puppetry, projection and sound. 

Matilda is keen to collaborate with artists from different disciplines and through one-day dream-time sessions an ensemble of artists will workshop ideas in a non-pressured environment. 

Matilda Leyser is an actress, dancer, aerial artist and physical theatre performer, who uses a combination of dramatic and circus techniques to create powerful contemporary performance imbued with warmth and wit. She has collaborated with major venues, including The National Theatre, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, Shakespeare’s Globe and The Royal Opera House.

We will be presenting a performance in progress in 2009 with a view for a tour in 2010.
