Performance producers CRYING OUT LOUD shows 2008/2009
Crying Out Loud produces programmes, commissions and curates exceptional performance and theatre events. Established by producer Rachel Clare in 2002, it’s the organisation which brought us James Thiérrée, Circo de la Sombra, Aurélia’s Oratorio, Taoub, Oogly Boogly and Patatboem.
Next up is Sensazione, a collaboration between the Award-winning Belgium company Laika and Antwerp travelling company Time Circus at Liverpool 08 from 6 to 10 August 2008. Set in a specially-created performing fairground, actors and musicians create ‘theatre of the senses’ in and around spectacular attractions for a sensation-seeking audience.
October 2008 sees two Crying Out Loud events at the Newcastle Gateshead Children and Young People’s Season - Sophia Clist’s Stretch and Italian company TPO’s Butterflies.
In 2009, look out for James Thiérrée’s new show at the Barbican Theatre, co-commissioned by barbicanbite09 as part of bite09, from 13 to 24 October and the first mid-scale show by puppeteers Blind Summit, a stage version of Call of the Wild in a major London venue then touring.
Crying Out Loud is the recent recipient of a £25,000 uplift in its Arts Council funding to continue its promotion of the mix of circus with other art forms. It is also coordinating an alliance of London venues to develop a new way of thinking about contemporary circus and theatre programming.
Crying Out Loud’s Artistic director Rachel Clare forged new ground in the ‘90s as one of the first Creative Producers. She has programming down to an art, pioneering seasons of challenging and contemporary work for all age groups. She is seen as a leading figure in contemporary circus by UK and European promoters and festivals. From 15 to 18 August, Rachel curates Free Time, four days of circus-inspired events at Somerset House. She is a jury member of the prestigious Jeunes Talents Europe and will speak at the Circostrada European meeting on 25 and 26 September at La Villette, Paris.

Notes to editors:
- Sensazione is at St George’s Plateau from 6 to 10 August as part of Liverpool Children’s Festival and Liverpool 08.
- Crying Out Loud makes extraordinary theatre happen. It commissions, produces and tours innovative, high quality international work with a strong visually distinctive identity. The work is risk-taking, and inter-disciplinary (encompassing dance, circus, music, theatre, visual art and multi-media), it challenges and breaks conventions - appealing to culturally diverse audiences of all ages (including children), and very often to those attending a performance event for the first time. Since 2002, COL has presented 25 different productions in England with companies from eight countries and three continents in some of the UK’s most prestigious festivals and venues, including the Lyric Hammersmith, the Roundhouse, Sadler’s Wells, the South Bank Centre, the Lowry Centre, Warwick Arts Centre, Nottingham Playhouse, Oxford Playhouse and at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool.
- Rachel Clare’s CV is available on request.
